David Leonard began his editing career in the cutting rooms of legendary filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker, Robert Altman, Paul Schrader, and Tim Burton—honing his craft on classics such as Goodfellas, The Last Temptation of Christ, Short Cuts, and many others.
Transitioning to the editor’s chair, David has since cut more than thirty feature films, short films and television projects, including the Sundance Audience Award–winning Two Family House, the Tribeca Audience Award–winning City Island, and the SHOWTIME hit series Dexter: New Blood.
His versatile work spans genres—from the influential hip-hop drama Belly and the family feature The Great Gilly Hopkins to the indie cult favorite Nadja and Al Pacino’s personal documentary Wilde Salome. David also edited the ABC limited series Madoff, the Peacock original Dr. Death, and the upcoming feature The Legend of Juan Jose Mundo.
